Associate Justice Goodwin Liu

KIWA is proud to announce that California Supreme Court Justice Goodwin Liu will appear as the keynote speaker at our 2019 Anniversary Celebration. We are pleased to honor Justice Liu for his commitment to equal justice under the law for all people in our society, including working people throughout California.

Justice Liu was has served on the state high court since 2011. Previously, he was a professor and associate dean at the UC Berkeley School of Law, specializing in constitutional law and education law and policy. In 2009, he received UC Berkeley’s Distinguished Teaching Award, the university’s most prestigious honor for individual excellence in teaching. Before joining the UC Berkeley faculty, he worked in the litigation practice of O’Melveny & Myers in Washington, D.C.

The son of Taiwanese immigrants, Justice Liu grew up in Sacramento, where he attended public schools. He earned his bachelor’s degree at Stanford University and a master’s degree at Oxford University on a Rhodes Scholarship. Justice Liu went on to graduate from Yale Law School, becoming the first in his family to become a lawyer. He clerked for Judge David Tatel on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit and for Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg on the U.S. Supreme Court.
