KIWA Stands in Solidarity with UTLA Teachers!

KIWA adopted Berendo Middle School teachers who are currently on strike with LAUSD. They are fighting for fair wages, more onsite services for students, smaller class sizes, and a commitment for teachers and students to succeed.

During this historic strike, LAUSD teachers are unpaid. We don't know how long the strike will continue and as a community, we must support teachers by energizing their spirits and sustaining their bodies. Currently, Berendo teachers are using the KIWA office to take a break and convene but we need your help to do more.

You can support Berendo Middle School teachers in a few key ways:

  • Donate snacks, drinks, and meals on weekdays. We encourage supporters to try to bring enough for 20 or 40 people preferably at 7am or 2pm before the morning or afternoon strike shift

  • Donate money to KIWA so we can purchase supplies directly (Please make a note this is for Berendo teachers in donation section)

  • Write encouraging messages on cards and drop off at KIWA or at any LAUSD school

  • Rally with teachers in their morning (7-9am) or afternoon (2-4pm) strike shift

  • Educate your family and friends about why this strike is so important for the dignity of workers and the investment in our children

  • Share information about the strike on social media using hashtags: #StrikeReady, #UTLAStrong, and #RedforEd.

The UTLA teachers are fighting for a stronger public education system that treats students and workers with dignity and respect! Let's stand strongly with these fighters!
